Using your photo as a starting reference, I start a PhotoPainting by determining how I want the finished painting to look. The overall tone and hues of the photo will sometimes dictate which media I choose to work with. Some photos, such as beach scenes, will lead me to choose virtual Watercolor or Pastel brushes. Darker values may have me reaching for the Oils. But there are no rules...
I work on the image - just like a painting - stroke by stroke, using a pressure sensitive tablet. This is a laborious and tedious process, customized to your specifications, as opposed to just applying a filter or using an “autopaint” program.
The digital arena allows me to change from one media to another throughout the painting process. I don’t stop this creative flow until we’re both happy with the end result.
The Giclee is then printed using archival inks on Artist Canvas or Watercolor Art Paper.
